Egypt reviews progress of energy efficiency initiative with Schneider Electric

Egypt’s Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat met Schneider Electric’s regional president Sebastien Riez on Thursday to review progress on an industrial energy efficiency initiative, the ministry said.

Talks focused on improving energy efficiency, cutting electricity waste and strengthening performance across power distribution networks. A model for energy audits in factories was presented, with the aim of extending the programme across industrial sectors.

The plan covers 25 factories in industries including cement, aluminium, textiles, glass, liquefied natural gas, food and beverages, electrical equipment and agricultural products. Audits have been completed in 13 plants, with the remainder due by the end of September.

Esmat also discussed cooperation on training ministry and Electricity Holding Company engineers in audit procedures to ensure sustainability through capacity-building. He stressed the importance of accelerating rollout in line with global energy management standards and deploying technology to optimise load distribution.

The minister said Egypt is working with partners to raise awareness of energy efficiency and cut electricity losses, while stabilising the national grid, expanding renewable energy, reducing fuel use and improving operational efficiency.
