Egypt, Romania sign key agreements to boost economic ties
Egypt and Romania signed six co-operation agreements on Thursday, marking a significant step in strengthening their economic partnership.
The agreements, signed during the fourth session of the Egyptian-Romanian Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation in Bucharest, cover a wide range of sectors including investment, agriculture, small and medium-sized enterprises, gas infrastructure, and oil and gas manufacturing.
The meeting, the first since 2019, was co-chaired by Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, and Romania’s Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, Stefan Radu Oprea. Both ministers emphasised the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in these key sectors.
The signed agreements include a memorandum of understanding between Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and the Romanian Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade, aiming to boost investment opportunities. Additionally, the countries pledged to strengthen co-operation in agriculture, SME development, gas infrastructure, and oil and gas manufacturing.
The meeting also discussed plans to increase trade exchange and joint investments, with Egypt positioning itself as a gateway for Romanian companies to access the Arab and African markets. The ministers expressed optimism about the potential for further collaboration between Romania’s Exim Bank and the Egyptian banking sector.
As Egypt and Romania prepare to celebrate 125 years of diplomatic relations, the outcomes of this meeting demonstrate their continued commitment to strengthening their economic partnership.
