Egypt, S. Arabia sign landmark energy efficiency agreement

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, along with Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides witnessed on Monday the signing of a cooperation agreement aimed at boosting energy efficiency between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The agreement was finalised at The Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2025).

According to the Ministry of Petroleum statement, the agreement outlines a comprehensive national programme to enhance energy efficiency across Egypt.

This strategic partnership will see both countries collaborating to establish a national framework that includes the exchange of expertise and the provision of technical support. Saudi Arabia will assist Egypt in setting up the necessary mechanisms and plans to achieve energy efficiency goals at the national level.

Key components of the agreement include the development of technical specifications and standards, as well as the creation of sustainable infrastructure to improve energy efficiency.

The agreement also focuses on enhancing human capital through training programmes and workshops, facilitating investments in energy efficiency projects, and improving financing mechanisms.

Furthermore, both countries will explore the possibility of setting up a joint entity dedicated to renewable energy efficiency projects in Egypt, in collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s National Energy Services Company – TARSHID.

On that note, a joint oversight mechanism will be established to track the implementation of the programme, set targets, and monitor performance indicators. Technical teams will be formed to manage each aspect of the cooperation.

This partnership marks a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties between Egypt and Saudi Arabia while driving sustainable energy development in Egypt.
