Egypt, S. Korea sign $10m MoU to advance green vehicle maintenance

Egypt’s ministry of planning signed a $10 million agreement with South Korea on Thursday to launch a Green Vehicle Maintenance Technology project, aimed at modernising training in electric, hybrid and natural gas-powered vehicles.

The initiative, financed by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), will run through 2030 across four Automotive Vocational Training Centres in Shubra, Imbaba, Alexandria’s Moharram Bek, and Kafr El-Zayat, the government said in a statement.

The project will update equipment, overhaul curricula, and train staff to support the shift to greener vehicles. Trainers will undergo a two-stage programme in South Korea and Egypt, while Korean volunteers will help support student activities.

Industry Minister Kamel El-Wazir said the scheme would align Egypt’s workforce with global automotive trends and called on Korean investors to expand into tyre and glass production to meet rising demand.

The move builds on a history of collaboration, specifically KOICA’s previous helped upgrades of the same four centres from 1998 to 2011.
