Egypt-Saudi power link hits 65% completion; says PM
The landmark electricity interconnection project between Egypt and Saudi Arabia has reached 65 per cent completion, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly announced during a press conference on Wednesday.
The project, designed to enhance energy exchange between the two nations, is on track to launch its first phase before next summer.
“I closely monitored the progress of the Egypt-Saudi Arabia power link this week, including a visit to the main station in Badr, which will serve as a vital hub for this critical project,” Prime Minister Madbouly said. “We are ensuring all companies involved remain committed to completing the initial phase on schedule.”
The electricity link is expected to optimise energy distribution between the two countries, allowing them to share resources during peak demand periods, which occur at different times in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The Egyptian prime minister highlighted the mutual benefits of the initiative, saying, “this project will strengthen the energy capacities of both nations and significantly support Egypt’s energy needs.”
