Egypt screens 3.1m women under maternal, fetal health initiative

Egypt’s Presidential Initiative for Maternal and Fetal Health screened 3.1 million individuals in the past five years, according to a Cabinet statement on Wednesday.

Launched in March 2020, the initiative aims to detect diseases transmitted from mother to fetus, including Hepatitis B, HIV, and syphilis in pregnant women, the statement explained.

It provides free services at health units and maternity and childcare centres nationwide. Medical teams follow up on both the mother and newborn for 42 days after delivery to ensure comprehensive postnatal care.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health and Population has introduced a dedicated hotline (15335) to assist with inquiries and provide guidance on accessing the initiative’s services, the statement added.
