Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has implemented proactive measures to secure domestic supplies of natural gas and petroleum products amid accelerating geopolitical developments. The steps come after the suspension of gas flows through the East Mediterranean pipeline following recent military strikes.
The ministry, on Saturday, said it coordinated with the Cabinet and relevant state bodies to ensure market needs are met, stressing that energy security is a pillar of national security. It confirmed diversification of gas supply sources and the availability of alternative capacities.
Throughout 2025, the ministry secured additional liquefied natural gas volumes for extended periods to meet the needs of the electricity sector, industry, and citizens. Measures included diversifying supply sources alongside domestic production, contracting LNG cargoes from multiple origins, concluding long-term agreements with international companies, establishing infrastructure to receive LNG imports, and deploying regasification vessels. It also continued settling partners’ dues to support exploration and production and boost domestic output.
The prepared infrastructure, regasification vessels, and additional gas supplies form part of alternative scenarios developed in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to ensure full readiness and secure required gas supplies for the power sector.
For petroleum products, the ministry increased available quantities and built strategic reserves of gasoline, diesel, butane, and other products. It achieved this by raising refinery output, conducting periodic maintenance to ensure maximum efficiency, optimising nationwide storage infrastructure, and building safe reserves of imported products to maintain market stability.
The ministry said it continues to monitor developments around the clock and conduct ongoing assessments.
