The facilities, expected to process 3,000 tons of waste per day, mark a push to expand private sector participation in integrated waste management, introducing modern collection, recycling, and disposal technologies. Total project investments are estimated at 500 million Egyptian pounds.
Environment Minister Manal Awad said the government aims to expand private sector participation in integrated waste management, introducing modern technology across collection, transport, recycling, and final disposal. The project aligns with the Waste Management Regulatory Authority’s efforts to implement environmental solutions in coordination with the Ministry of Local Development and the Sharqia governorate.
The minister added that greater involvement by specialised private firms is expected to produce alternative fuel for cement factories, cut coal import costs, and convert organic waste into fertiliser.
