Egypt signs protocol to operate German-model school

Egypt’s Ministers of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny and Education Minister Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Latif signed a protocol for transferring schools built by the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) to the Ministry of Education, the Cabinet said in a statement on Monday.

The protocol covers schools located in new urban cities, starting with a pilot in Sixth of October City. The school will operate under the German education model, similar to the Nile International Certificate system. Other schools will be selected based on future agreements between both ministries.

El-Sherbiny said the signing marks a milestone in aligning urban planning with the state’s educational development strategy. He added that the protocol aims to manage these schools in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s modern operational vision, citing the success of the Nile and Japanese schools.

He affirmed full support during all implementation phases. He said the government would closely monitor progress on the ground. El-Sherbiny also pointed to existing vocational schools under the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, which train students for roles in water and sanitation networks.

He noted growing demand from the private sector for these graduates, underscoring the need to expand such models and integrate foreign-language instruction to meet domestic and international market needs.

Abdel Latif said the German-Egyptian school model will begin in the upcoming academic year. He also revealed ongoing consultations with the French Embassy to establish French-model schools to diversify international education options in Egypt.

The minister highlighted efforts to modernise technical education, noting that Egypt now operates 90 applied technology schools. He said the ministry is pursuing international cooperation to raise standards and attract partners from Germany, Italy, and Japan, aiming to launch more schools offering internationally accredited programmes.
