Egypt, SLB advance seismic survey project in Eastern Mediterranean

Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy met on Monday with Olivier Le Peuch, CEO of SLB (formerly Schlumberger), to discuss preparations for a large-scale Ocean Bottom Nodes (OBN) seismic survey in the Eastern Mediterranean covering 95,000 square kilometres. The project will be conducted by the SLB–Veridian alliance.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the ADIPEC 2025 Conference and Exhibition, was part of a series of discussions between Badawy and global energy leaders aimed at boosting cooperation in natural gas exploration and production.

Egypt said the OBN project is designed to uncover new gas reserves and reduce exploration risks by providing high-precision seismic data, while supporting efforts to attract further investment in the country’s upstream sector.

The minister and SLB CEO also reviewed their ongoing collaboration on the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) project, exploring ways to strengthen the digital platform’s role in facilitating petroleum and gas investment and field development.
