Egypt, SLB discuss tech-driven oil and gas cooperation at Gastech

Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy met executives from SLB (formerly Schlumberger) on the sidelines of the Gastech 2025 conference in Italy to discuss strengthening cooperation in exploration and production technologies, the ministry said Wednesday.

Talks covered SLB’s plans to support Egypt with offshore seismic surveys using ocean bottom node (OBN) technology, integrated digital data analysis, and artificial intelligence applications for interpreting geological data.

The two sides also discussed boosting the efficiency of producing fields, expanding digital transformation systems, and increasing technical training for Egyptian professionals. Potential partnerships in new exploration areas in the Mediterranean were also reviewed.

Badawy highlighted the importance of working with international energy leaders to adopt technologies that improve discoveries and output while maintaining safety and environmental standards.

SLB reaffirmed Egypt’s role as a strategic partner and pledged to expand operations, support technology transfer, and build local capacity in line with global oil and gas trends.
