Egypt, Slovakia sign environmental pact at Cairo Water Week

Egypt’s Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment Manal Awad signed on Sunday a memorandum of understanding with Slovak Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba to boost technical cooperation on environmental protection and climate change.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 8th Cairo Water Week, taking place from Oct. 12 to 16.

According to Awad, the MoU aims to strengthen collaboration between Egypt and Slovakia through the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and technology on an equal and mutually beneficial basis. Priority areas include climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental planning, and the protection of nature and biodiversity.

The partnership will be implemented through seminars, joint research, exchange visits, and enhanced cooperation between the public and private sectors, including engagement of women’s organisations. The Egyptian ministry’s Central Department of Cooperation, International Relations, and Technical Support and Slovakia’s Department of Foreign Affairs will oversee coordination.

Awad said the deal reflects Egypt’s efforts to expand international partnerships to tackle environmental and climate challenges in line with its sustainable development and climate action strategies.
