Egypt, Slovenia discuss bilateral ties, Gaza crisis at Bled Forum

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty met Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon on Tuesday to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and regional developments, including the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 20th Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia. Abdel-Atty underscored the historically strong relations between the two countries, noting Egypt’s early recognition of Slovenia’s independence and expressing hope for deeper cooperation following last year’s joint economic committee session.

Talks focused heavily on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where Abdel-Atty warned of worsening conditions approaching famine. He said continued Israeli military operations, settlement expansion and forced displacement threatened the viability of a future Palestinian state.

He urged coordinated international action to secure an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian access, calling on the European Union in particular to press Israel to ease aid restrictions and engage with ceasefire proposals constructively.

Abdel-Atty welcomed Slovenia’s support for Palestinian rights, including its recent recognition of Palestinian statehood and humanitarian initiatives such as treating injured Gazan children.

The ministers agreed to enhance diplomatic coordination, especially in light of Slovenia’s current non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
