The trade volume between Egypt and Somalia reached $127.7 million in 2024, up from $58.2 million in 2023, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported on Monday.
Egypt’s exports to Somalia surged to $122.9 million in 2024 from $55.8 million in 2023, while imports from Somalia rose to $4.8 million from $2.4 million over the same period, according to the report.
Top Egyptian exports to Somalia:
- Milled products: $60 million
- Sugar and confectionery: $29 million
- Tobacco: $6 million
- Pharmaceutical products: $6 million
- Preserved vegetables and fruits: $3 million
Top imports from Somalia to Egypt:
- Live animals: $4 million
- Gums and plant extracts: $800,000
Remittances from Egyptians working in Somalia totalled $884,000 in FY 2023/24, compared to $299,000 in FY 2022/23. Meanwhile, Somali remittances in Egypt dropped to $3,000 from $14,000 over the same period.
