Egypt, Spain discuss boosting agricultural cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk met with his Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Luis Planas Puchades, to explore ways of enhancing cooperation in agriculture and food trade, a Cabinet statement said on Sunday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 6th African Union and European Union Agriculture Ministerial Conference, held at the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) headquarters in Rome.

Discussions centred on key areas such as food security, sustainable agricultural development, and cooperation in modern water management, including efficient field irrigation systems.

Minister Farouk stressed the importance of working with Spain in advanced irrigation, smart farming technologies, and value chain development, as well as encouraging agri-investment and knowledge exchange.

The Spanish minister praised the quality and international reputation of Egyptian agricultural products and expressed his country’s interest in enhancing the trade of agri-food goods between Egypt and Spain.
