Egypt, Spain FMs discuss investment, Palestine statehood

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty met his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares on Wednesday to discuss boosting investment and deepening cooperation across energy, tourism, education, migration, and counterterrorism, the Egyptian ministry said.

Abdel-Atty welcomed greater Spanish investment in Egypt, particularly in energy and green hydrogen projects, and praised the recent upgrade of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership. He also hailed the historic royal visit to Cairo, describing it as a reflection of the depth of relations between the two countries.

The minister thanked Spain for its support within the European Union and called for continued backing as Egypt seeks to resolve conflicts and bolster regional stability.

On regional developments, Abdel-Atty reiterated Egypt’s rejection of Israeli violations of Arab sovereignty and condemned what he called crimes in Gaza, including the ongoing ground incursion. He warned that such actions threaten regional security and urged the international community to act against policies of blockade, starvation, settlement expansion, and forced displacement.

He stressed that ending the conflict requires a two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state on the June 4th, 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital. Abdel-Atty commended Spain’s position on the Palestinian issue and its support for recent resolutions addressing Israeli actions in Gaza.
