Egypt starts gas output from West El Burullus field

Egypt has begun gas production from the West El Burullus field in the Mediterranean, with initial wells connected to the national gas network after productivity tests showed output of nearly 45 million cubic feet per day, the petroleum ministry said on Saturday.

Authorities are working to connect two additional wells, targeting 75 million cubic feet per day by early 2026.

The project is a joint effort between the Petroleum Sector and Cheiron Petroleum Corporation Energy.

The ministry said the development demonstrates a model of integrated work and optimal use of Egyptian petroleum companies’ capabilities in executing major projects. Modern Drilling Company (MDC), Petroleum Marine Services (PMS), PETROJET, ENPPI, and PICO ENERGY all contributed to the field’s initial production. Gas is being transported to existing processing facilities through Petrobel, leveraging current infrastructure to reduce costs.
