Egypt, Sudan advance power, energy projects

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met on Monday with Sudan’s Minister of Oil and Energy Mohi-Eddin Naeem and his accompanying delegation to discuss strengthening cooperation in electricity, renewable energy, and technical training.

Talks covered Sudan’s energy sector needs, including supplying various power transformers and grid reinforcement—particularly in northern regions.

Discussion further explored cooperation in the fields of training programmes, technical expertise, and assistance in preparing wind atlases and measurement systems.

The meeting reviewed steps for rehabilitating Sudan’s power network, implementing an emergency electricity supply plan for agricultural harvest season areas, and drawing up a plan to overhaul generation stations and substations.

Both sides discussed progress on the second phase of the Egypt-Sudan power double-circuit transmission line “Toshka 2/ Wadi Halfa”, with a capacity of 300 megawatts.

They also explored prospects for renewable energy projects, including solar power stations across Sudan, and increasing private sector involvement from Egypt in future energy initiatives.
