Egypt, Sudan discuss strengthening economic cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan Al-Khatib, met on Monday with Sudan’s Minister of Minerals, Nour El-Daim Taha, to explore ways to enhance joint economic relations and review key areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Al-Khatib urged practical steps to boost bilateral trade and joint investments in line with the strong relations between the two countries. He proposed establishing a joint Egyptian-Sudanese Business Council and increasing exchanges of business visits. He noted his plans to lead the first Egyptian business delegation to Sudan in the near future. He also affirmed Egypt’s readiness to cooperate with Sudan in the gold mining sector and to maximise benefits from the country’s mineral wealth, including through training and human resource development

Al-Khatib stressed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Sudan’s efforts to achieve stability and economic development, noting that the two countries share a vital lifeline in the River Nile and that Egypt will continue to stand by the Sudanese people and government. He also highlighted Egypt’s efforts over the past decade to develop infrastructure and foster an attractive investment climate, emphasising the need for a clear action plan to boost trade and investment cooperation.

The meeting also included a review of investment, trade, and mining opportunities as key pillars for advancing development in both countries. Both sides agreed to continue coordination and consultation across multiple fields to strengthen joint efforts and achieve the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
