Egypt aims to procure five million tons of wheat during the current harvest season as part of its food security strategy, Supply Minister Sherif Farouk said on Sunday during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly.
He noted that reserves of key commodities—including wheat, rice, sugar, oil, pasta, and meat—are at highly reassuring levels, confirming that the state holds sufficient stocks to meet domestic consumption needs for safe periods.
Farouk attributed the strong stock levels to proactive government plans, which help address the repercussions of the current crisis, mitigate its impact on global supply chains, and ensure continued availability of goods.
