Egypt targets domestic renewables manufacturing to cut fuel bill – PM

Egypt is moving to localise production of solar panels and wind turbine components in a bid to meet its 2030 renewable energy targets and reduce the cost of electricity generation, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said Wednesday.

Speaking at his weekly press briefing, Madbouly said the government is preparing a large-scale programme with companies operating in the Suez Canal Economic Zone to accelerate the rollout of clean energy infrastructure.

He said greater reliance on renewables will ease pressure on Egypt’s oil, gas and diesel imports, freeing resources for other sectors and supporting fiscal stability. The initiative is also expected to create industrial investment opportunities in the fast-growing renewables supply chain.
