Egypt’s Minister of Electricity Mahmoud Esmat met on Tuesday with Minister of Public Business Sector Mohammed Sheemy to discuss initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency in energy-intensive industries and advancing renewable energy projects.
The meeting centered on implementing the energy efficiency protocol signed between the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and the National Asset Management and Investment Company. Key discussions focused on launching a solar power project to supply electricity to the Nagaa Hammadi aluminium complex, one of Egypt’s largest industrial facilities.
Both ministers also explored strategies for enhancing energy efficiency in heavy electricity-consuming factories, improving the production and quality of electrical equipment, and increasing the profitability and management of state-owned assets.
The two sides also emphasised the importance of deepening coordination on renewable energy and clean power initiatives. This aligns with Egypt’s updated national energy strategy, which aims for 42 per cent of total energy generation from renewables by 2030 and 65 per cent by 2040.
Future projects discussed included leveraging infrastructure to support sustainable development, boost industrial productivity, and enhance operational efficiency across key sectors.
