Egypt targets stronger Rwanda ties as trade triples to $216m in 2024: minister
Egypt plans to double its trade with Rwanda after bilateral exchanges jumped to $216 million in 2024 from $68 million a year earlier, Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Hassan El-Khatib said on Monday.
Speaking at the Egypt-Rwanda Business Forum alongside Rwandan Trade Minister Prudence Sebahizi, El-Khatib said Cairo sees Rwanda as a key partner in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, education, and renewable energy.
He added that Egypt aims to rank among the world’s top 50 countries in trade and investment competitiveness within two years, building on years of infrastructure upgrades and reforms to improve the business climate.
El-Khatib said the forum provided an opportunity to expand cooperation and make greater use of regional trade agreements such as COMESA and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which could help integrate the two countries into regional value chains.
