Egypt tells investors to begin construction or risk losing land

Idle industrial plots face withdrawal as Egypt presses investors to build

Egypt’s government has called on investors holding allocated industrial land to start building immediately, warning that plots left undeveloped could be reclaimed and reassigned to more committed companies.

Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir made the announcement on Thursday after inspecting factories in 10th of Ramadan City. He noted that many allocated plots had not yet seen construction, describing the inaction as “unjustified freezing and holding of the land,” which he said hampers the country’s industrial expansion and broader economic development goals.

The Ministry of Industry said failure to start construction on schedule would trigger decisive action, including withdrawal of the land and reallocation to serious investors. The latest announcement aligns with Egyptian government’s efforts to maximise the use of industrial land and support long-term strategy for sustainable industrial growth.
