Under the patronage of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, the conference will be organised in cooperation with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and APUA’s secretariat, coinciding with the 55th anniversary of the association.
This year, Egypt will take over the presidency of APUA from Senegal, highlighting Egypt’s increasing influence in shaping Africa’s energy future. Egypt has previously held the position of First Vice President of APUA and led its Scientific Committee.
Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, stated that Egypt hosting the event demonstrates regional and international trust in the country’s energy leadership and strategic initiatives to promote African energy cooperation.
He added that the conference will provide a platform to craft a unified African vision aligned with global developments and will support the continent’s energy transition, according to the statement.
Esmat highlighted Egypt’s National Energy Strategy, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 42 per cent of total electricity generation by 2030 and 65 per cent by 2040, as part of building a cleaner, more sustainable energy mix.
Themed Challenges of the Energy Transition, the congress will gather around 1,500 participants, including energy ministers, African utility heads, policymakers, experts, development partners, and major energy companies.
High-level forums will address themes such as executive leadership, the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM), and African Women Empowerment Forum (AWEF). The programme also features technical workshops, panel discussions, innovation showcases, and site visits to flagship energy projects in Egypt.
An accompanying exhibition will highlight cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions from leading domestic and international manufacturers and service providers in the electricity and energy sectors.
