Egypt’s New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) chairman Mohammed Al Khayat said on Sunday that work on the 250-MW Gulf of Suez wind power project is close to completion with trial operation planned to begin next month.
The commercial operation of the wind farm is scheduled to begin in December, as part of the country’s plan to diversify energy sources and expand renewable energy, Al Khayat added in an interview with the government-owned weekly newspaper.
The chairman further mentioned that the facility is expected to generate more than 1,180 MWh annually, noting that renewable energy projects enhance Egypt’s opportunities to export electricity to Europe, Asia, and Africa through interconnection projects with neighbouring countries.
