Egypt to open Nasser Social Bank branches on holiday for January pensions

Egypt will open all branches of state-owned Nasser Social Bank on Thursday, despite an official banking holiday, to ensure the timely disbursement of January pensions, the Ministry of Social Solidarity said.

Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy, who also chairs the bank’s board, said the move is aimed at easing procedures for pensioners and guaranteeing access to their financial entitlements without disruption. Branches nationwide will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Pension payments will be available through the bank’s branch network, as well as via ATMs operated by Nasser Social Bank and other lenders under the 123 interbank network. Beneficiaries can also withdraw funds through Fawry and Fawry Plus electronic payment outlets.

The bank serves more than two million customers across Egypt, according to the ministry.

Osama El-Sayed, vice chairman of Nasser Social Bank, said branch managers and staff have been instructed to ensure ATMs are fully stocked with cash and to closely monitor operations throughout the day to avoid overcrowding or service disruptions.

The decision is part of broader government efforts to expand pension payment channels and reduce pressure on beneficiaries, the ministry added.
