Egypt to open three metro stations on third line – minister
Egypt’s Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir announced that the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation would open three stations on the third line of the metro Haroun al-Rashid, Shams Club and Alf Maskan on 15 June after the trial operation period for the railway systems, electrification and signals concludes.
Wazir rode the metro from Ard al-Mared, Istad, the Banat faculty, Ahram, Haroun, Heliopolis, alf Maskan and the Shams Club stations, explaining that the trial period is to ensure fans will be safely transported to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations matches on June.
The minister specified that the three stations will help the fans residing in Masr al-Gededa, alf Maskn, and Gesr al-Suez areas move to the stadiums as quick as possible.
He added that the company still has been constructing Heliopolis station which would be the largest station in the Middle East and Africa and open in October.
The total costs for the third line of the Cairo metro reach LE90 billion to help transfer approximately four million passengers each day through 27 tunnel stations and 12 surface stations over a length of 48 kilometers.
