Egypt to share Hepatitis C, insurance expertise with Pakistan

Egypt and Pakistan are strengthening health cooperation with plans to share the Egyptian expertise on combating Hepatitis C and expanding universal health coverage, according to a statement from Egypt’s Cabinet on Wednesday.

Egyptian Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met Pakistan’s Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal on the sidelines of the 6th Global Mental Health Ministerial Summit. Abdel Ghaffar highlighted Egypt’s success in eliminating Hepatitis C and rolling out universal health insurance, saying Cairo was ready to share expertise through training programmes and exchanges.

Kamal praised Egypt’s role in supplying medicines and hosting Pakistani delegations, noting that Hepatitis C remains a pressing challenge in his country. He said Egypt’s progress offers a model for reforming Pakistan’s health system and expanding insurance coverage.

The two ministers agreed to step up coordination through reciprocal visits and tailored training, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and tackling regional and global health challenges.
