Egypt to teach sign language at public schools – minister

Reda Hegazy, Egyptian Minister of Education, announced that sign language will be taught in Egyptian public schools to help in the inclusivity of deaf-mute students.

Hegazy is partnering with Ibdaa initiative and Kalmny Ishara Company to create ways to develop digital curriculums for deaf-mute students.

He further confirmed the ministry’s consideration and interest in special needs and deaf-mute students. He also said that the ministry is working on hiring specialised teachers in sign language.

The Ministry is taking these initiatives to help special needs students in their education journey and to ensure that they will have an active role in the society.

Head of Kalmny Ishara, Ahmed Fathy Suliman, said that the company will provide educational services; theoretically and practically, to help include deaf-mute students.
