Egypt, UAE explore deeper aviation cooperation at ICAO assembly

Egypt and the United Arab Emirates discussed boosting cooperation in civil aviation, including the use of artificial intelligence to improve air safety and efficiency, the Egyptian Cabinet said on Sunday.

Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny met UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri on the sidelines of the 42nd International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) General Assembly in Montreal, as per the Cabinet statement.

Talks focused on exchanging expertise, expanding partnerships in the aviation sector, and supporting sustainability efforts, including measures to cut carbon emissions, it added.

El-Hefny described Egyptian-Emirati ties as “a model of constructive Arab cooperation,” highlighting the sector’s rapid development in both countries. Al Marri said closer aviation cooperation was central to economic growth and expanding air connectivity, and underlined the need for new legislation, AI adoption, and upgraded navigation systems to strengthen global competitiveness.
