Egypt, UAE’s K&K Group sign deal for final studies on Egypt–Europe power link via Italy

Egypt’s state-owned electricity transmission company signed an agreement on Wednesday with UAE-based K&K Group to conduct final studies for a planned electricity interconnection project linking Egypt and Europe through Italy using undersea cables, the Cabinet said in a statement.

The deal, signed by Mona Rizk, Chairperson of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), and Tajeddine Seif, Chairman and Owner of K&K Group, covers final technical, environmental and financial assessments for the project, paving the way for implementation.

The interconnection will link Egypt’s national grid with the unified European electricity network via Italy, supporting Cairo’s strategy to become a regional energy hub and a key exporter of clean power to European markets.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, who attended the signing, said the agreement reflects Egypt’s commitment to advancing power interconnection with Europe and maximising the use of its renewable resources.

Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat said the project, with a planned capacity of up to 3,000 megawatts, will help Egypt export surplus renewable energy to Europe, support the global energy transition, cut carbon emissions, and boost regional energy security.
