Egypt, UNDP follow up on knowledge-based innovation project

Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour received the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Egypt Chitose Noguchi, the Egyptian Cabinet reported.

The meeting discussed aspects of cooperation between the ministry and the programme in the project “Transforming Egypt into an Innovative and Sustainable Knowledge Society.”

The project aims to harness technological innovation to create value and promote sustainability across all production and service sectors in Egypt. It serves as a key approach to overcoming economic challenges, achieving targeted growth, improving quality of life, and strengthening Egypt’s regional and global competitiveness.

The project promotes technology transfer, advanced manufacturing, and partnerships between higher education institutions, industry, government, investors, and entrepreneurs.

It also supports the establishment and development of hundreds of companies emerging from scientific research outputs across Egypt and encourages digital transformation and the adoption of artificial intelligence in academic institutions.

The initiative encompasses five sub-policies: developing innovation capacities in higher education and research institutions, enhancing the developmental role of universities and research centres, diversifying and strengthening innovation funding to support sustainable development and quality of life, improving work environments and promoting a culture of science, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and governing national sustainable innovation policy.
