Egypt’s Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny stressed the importance of energy and water conservation in light of the current developments and scenarios stemming from the Iran-Israel military conflict, as per a Cabinet statement on Thursday.
His remark came during a periodic meeting of the Supreme Coordination Committee with officials from the Ministry and the New Urban Communities Authority, joined by heads of new city administrations via videoconference to review ongoing work.
El-Sherbiny instructed new city leaders to cut energy and water consumption, maintain lighting units and street lamps, and boost awareness campaigns via media and social media platforms to encourage resource conservation.
He also ordered coordination on city advertisements and reduction of lighting in signs and billboards, with daily reports from each city authority to monitor progress, according to the Cabinet’s release.
Sherbini reviewed the status of drinking water stations, noting efforts to reduce losses but calling for increased work to further minimise wastage. He stressed the need to monitor consumption and prioritise the operation and maintenance of water stations.
The minister also addressed the sewage systems in several new cities, calling for improvements and strict operational discipline to prevent issues. He requested detailed reports on the sewage systems across all cities for his review.
