Egypt, US, Israel agree on opening of Rafah crossing: security sources

Egypt, Israel and the U.S. agreed on a ceasefire in southern Gaza at 06:00 GMT to open the Rafah border crossing, Egyptian security sources said on Monday.

According to Reuters, the sources said the ceasefire is set to last for hours but were not clear on the exact duration.

They added that the Rafah crossing would be open until 14:00 GMT on Monday as a one-day initial re-opening.

Rafah is on the border between Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and Gaza and is the only crossing not controlled by Israel.

Aid trucks from Egyptian NGOs have been piling up for days in the Sinai town of Al-Arish, waiting for permission to make it to Rafah.

The aid came all the way from several countries and international organisations.

The Egyptian government reached an agreement with U.S. Secretary of State Blinken on the delivery of aid and evacuation of foreign nationals from Gaza.
