Egypt-US strategic dialogue to resume soon: envoy

The Egyptian Ambassador to Washington, Yasser Reda, said that the strategic dialogue between the United States and Egypt, headed by the two foreign ministers, is expected to resume before the end of this year. The dialogue will include a number of representatives of the concerned executive bodies of the two countries.

he ambassador explained in a press statement during his meeting with the Door-Knocking delegation currently visiting the United States currently that the Egyptian government was keen to launch this dialogue in 2015, despite differences that have affected relations with the former US administration, and it was agreed to hold dialogue sessions every two years alternately between Washington and Cairo.

He stressed the need to resume this dialogue as soon as possible to take advantage of the positive results of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi’s visit to Washington, which took place in early April.

The ambassador stressed that confronting terrorism is one of the most important issues at the table of the joint negotiations. The Egyptian administration is keen to present its vision of this issue and to emphasise that it is not only to fight a terrorist organization but also to fight terrorism in various parts of the world. He also emphasised that there must be a political, ideological and social, along with a security mechanism, to unify the message and confront the enemy.

The ambassador considered that the president’s call to renew the religious discourse was one of the most courageous steps taken by a president in the world, pointing out that Egypt’s leadership of this process is a source of strength and weight.

The ambassador said on the sidelines of the Door-Knocking delegation that Egypt’s relationship with America goes beyond the issue of aid and that Egypt is keen on economic cooperation and attracting investments as it is much more important than aid. He pointed out that the value of American investments in Egypt is $21 billion, and that increasing it guarantees providing job opportunities.
