Egypt, US stress continued coordination to curb Middle East escalation

Egypt and the United States underlined on Monday the importance of ongoing coordination to contain regional escalation and preserve stability, during talks in Cairo between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper.

The two sides discussed efforts to defuse tensions in the Middle East, with a particular focus on mediation in Gaza. Sisi highlighted the joint role of Egypt, the US, and Qatar in pushing for an immediate ceasefire, securing the release of hostages and detainees, and enabling humanitarian aid to reach the enclave.

According to a presidency statement, Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to sustained de-escalation as a step toward reviving the political process and achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.

The meeting, held at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, was attended by Egypt’s Defence Minister Abdel-Meguid Saqr, US Ambassador Herro Mustafa Garg, Jason Wimberly, US embassy defence attaché, and Gabrielle Lamport, senior advisor to the US commander (USCENTCOM).

Cooper conveyed greetings from US President Donald Trump to Sisi, who praised the depth of bilateral relations and described them as a strategic anchor for regional security. The talks also highlighted the upcoming Bright Star 2025 military exercises as a sign of close defence cooperation.

Discussions touched on developments in other parts of the Middle East, with both sides agreeing to step up coordination to support durable political solutions to ongoing conflicts and to promote stability and prosperity across the region.
