Egypt has condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israel’s National Security Minister under the protection of Israeli police, calling it a blatant provocation and escalation against Muslims worldwide on the third day of Eid al-Fitr.
In a statement on Wednesday, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed that any Israeli actions regarding Al-Aqsa Mosque lack legal or legitimate grounds, as it remains an exclusive place of worship for Muslims. The ministry warned that such extreme measures constitute a clear violation of international law and a major source of regional instability.
Egypt warned against continuing this provocative and reckless course, emphasising the importance of safeguarding the legal and historical status of religious sanctities in Jerusalem.
Egypt also warned against any attempts to compromise these sanctities, emphasising that the continued failure to halt Israeli violations and provocations, coupled with the lack of decisive international action, could trigger widespread outrage. This, in turn, may lead to an escalation in the Middle East with serious consequences for international peace and security, as per the statement.
