Egypt wins ACERWC seat, reinforces role in continental child welfare
Egypt has been elected to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC), the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) announced on Thursday, marking the country’s return to the body after a two-year absence.
Wael Abdel-Razek, Secretary-General of the NCCM, will represent Egypt on the committee, which works to advance child rights and welfare across the continent. The council said his election reflects African countries’ confidence in Egyptian expertise and ongoing efforts to promote child protection and inclusion in social development initiatives.
The NCCM praised the role of Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its diplomatic efforts during the nomination and election process, noting that the victory underscores Cairo’s ability to mobilize continental and international support for child-related issues.
Sahar Al-Sonbaty, NCCM President, said membership in the committee provides Egypt with an opportunity to strengthen its role in shaping child protection policies across Africa. She added that Egypt plans to propose initiatives and share its expertise in child protection, care, and development to create tangible impact for children throughout the continent.
The NCCM added that Abdel-Razek’s participation would further enhance Egypt’s presence within African institutions focused on childhood welfare.
