Egypt has secured a seat on the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for Category II, following elections at the UN agency’s headquarters in Montreal during its 42nd General Assembly session, the civil aviation ministry said Saturday.
The ministry said the victory highlighted Egypt’s strong standing in international aviation and reflected global confidence in its role in shaping the future of air transport.
It added that Egypt’s election comes after efforts to modernise the country’s civil aviation system, upgrade air navigation services, and expand training in line with international standards.
Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny said Cairo would continue advancing initiatives to support sustainable air transport, strengthen regional and developing-country groupings, and contribute to boosting global air connectivity, trade, and tourism.
