Egypt, World Water Council sign MoU to boost cooperation on sustainable water management

Egypt’s ministry of water resources and irrigation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the World Water Council to strengthen cooperation in sustainable water management, capacity building, and coordination at major international water events, the ministry said on Saturday.

The agreement, signed during the 91st Board of Governors meeting of the World Water Council in Cairo, also aims to promote training and knowledge exchange through the Pan African Centre for Water and Climate Adaptation, ahead of the opening of the Eighth Cairo Water Week on Sunday.

Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hany Swailem said the partnership reflects Egypt’s commitment to advancing the global water agenda and builds on the outcomes of the 10th World Water Forum held in Bali in 2024. He added that Egypt will work closely with both the World Water Council and Saudi Arabia to ensure the success of the upcoming 11th World Water Forum, which the Kingdom will host.

Swailem noted that Egypt continues to face a widening gap between limited water resources and rising demand, driven by population growth and climate change, underscoring the need for strong international cooperation based on respect for global water laws.

He stressed that water security is essential to stability, prosperity, and peace, and a key foundation for climate resilience and sustainable development for future generations.
