Egypt, Xcalibur prepare for historic nationwide airborne mineral survey
Egypt is preparing to launch a comprehensive airborne geophysical survey of its mineral resources with global firm Xcalibur, a step aimed at attracting investment and modernising the country’s mining sector, the Ministry of Petroleum said on Wednesday.
Yasser Ramadan, chairman of the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA), met with Xcalibur executives on the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026) to review final preparations for the survey, which officials said will provide a state-of-the-art geological database to support exploration and investment.
“The project is strategically important, and strict adherence to timelines will ensure its success according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency,” Ramadan said.
The initiative is part of Egypt’s broader plan to strengthen its position as a regional hub for mining and maximise the economic value of its mineral wealth, while aligning domestic operations with international best practices in resource mapping and geoscience.
This is the first nationwide mineral mapping project in more than four decades. The survey will use advanced airborne technologies and involve collaboration with local institutions, including the Nuclear Materials Authority (NMA), whose aircraft will operate alongside Xcalibur’s. Drone Tech will also participate in the operations.
