Egyptian Cabinet: Public hospitals to remain state-owned

Public hospitals will remain state-owned and will continue providing all healthcare services efficiently and without disruption, the Egyptian Cabinet affirmed in a statement on Monday, denying claims that the government plans to sell public hospitals or halt services.

The Cabinet stressed that citizens’ right to healthcare remains fully protected, whether through public health insurance or treatment at the state’s expense.

The government is working to enhance collaboration with the private sector to improve the efficiency and quality of service across the healthcare system, including the construction, development, and management of medical facilities, according to the statement.

The Cabinet also confirmed that no workers of public hospital will be laid off. Instead, efforts are underway to improve working conditions, incentivise staff, and implement professional operational standards to improve performance across the sector.
