The Egyptian pound strengthened slightly against the US dollar in early Thursday trading, but continued to hover within a narrow band after several weeks of stability, according to official bank data.
As of 11:23 a.m. Cairo time (09:23 GMT), major banks quoted the pound at:
| Bank | Buy (EGP/USD) | Sell (EGP/USD) |
| National Bank of Egypt (NBE) | 47.58 | 47.68 |
| Banque Misr | 47.67 | 47.77 |
| Commercial International Bank (CIB) | 47.59 | 47.69 |
| QNB Alahli | 47.5600 | 47.6600 |
| Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) | 47.6700 | 47.7700 |
The currency has moved within a tight range in recent weeks, signalling relative calm after months of volatility earlier this year, when persistent foreign currency shortages and high inflation weighed on the market.
