Egypt’s president and current chairman of the African Union Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed the partnership between Africa and the G7 on Sunday in Biarritz, France.
The event was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, leaders of the G7 and the presidents of South Africa, Senegal, Rwanda, and Burkina Faso.
The session tackled the launch of a “balanced partnership” to overcome overpopulation, economic and climate challenges, as well as discussing a number of issues affecting economic and political development in Africa.
Addressing the session, El-Sisi stressed the need for boosting cooperation between Africa and its international partners, particularly the G7, to solve common issues.
“There is no alternative to dialogue [between African countries and international partners] to solve the challenges facing Africa in a way that suits our common interests,” he said, adding that there is no need to showcase the challenges facing Africa in detail, but “we need to work together to find solutions according to the continent’s priorities.”
