Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk met on Monday with CEO of Middle East for Vaccines (MEVAC) Magdy El-Sayed to discuss boosting veterinary vaccine production, localising its technology, and expanding exports, as per a Cabinet statement.
Farouk emphasised President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to localise industries traditionally imported, aiming to add value to the national economy, generate foreign currency, and reduce import costs.
He also stressed the need to identify key vaccines for domestic production and expand their manufacturing.
MEVAC, an Egyptian company with Egyptian, American, and Arab investments exceeding EGP 5 billion, currently operates four production lines with an annual capacity of over 4 billion doses.
The company aims to expand production to 12 billion doses by 2025-2026, targeting exports to over 60 countries, alongside the upcoming launch of a new factory in El-Salhiya.
The minister directed the preparation of a cooperation protocol between the ministry’s Veterinary Serum and Vaccine Research Institute and MEVAC, while also instructing an increase in the company’s vaccine exports to Africa in line with Egypt’s regional cooperation strategy.
