Egypt’s bourse to upgrade trading system, expand listings in gold sector — chairman

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) is implementing a major upgrade of its trading technology to support transactions across all asset classes, including equities, debt instruments, derivatives and other financial products, Chairman Islam Azzam said on Thursday.

Speaking at the 64th General Assembly and Annual Meeting of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), Azzam said the EGX is also reviewing global best practices in gold trading and settlement to improve market efficiency.

He said the exchange aims to attract and list companies operating across the gold value chain — from mining and refining to manufacturing — to deepen the market and diversify its sectoral base.

Azzam added that closer integration between Egypt’s gold and financial markets is expected in the coming years, with a broader investor base and more listed firms helping to expand the gold ecosystem and increase value creation.
