Egypt’s c.bank governor leads delegation to AfDB Annual Meetings in Abidjan

Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Hassan Abdalla is heading Egypt’s delegation to the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) 60th Annual Meetings and the 51st session of the African Development Fund’s Board of Governors.

This year’s meetings are taking place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from May 26 to 30, under the theme Making Africa’s Capital Work Better for Africa’s Development. The agenda reflects growing calls for reforms to international financing systems amid rising global economic pressures.

Abdalla praised the theme for addressing pressing challenges such as geopolitical tensions, trade fragmentation, elevated borrowing costs, declining investment flows, and currency volatility. He also commended the AfDB’s continued role in financing development across the continent.

The five-day meetings also carry added significance as they will include the election of the Bank’s next president, who will serve a five-year term.

Egypt’s cooperation portfolio with the AfDB has reached approximately $8.2 billion since 1974, supporting infrastructure and development projects across energy, transport, agriculture, irrigation, and financial services in both public and private sectors.

The forum is also spotlighting human capital and youth empowerment, with dedicated sessions aimed at advancing youth inclusion in Africa’s development agenda.
