Egypt’s central bank kicks 2022 with keeping key interest rates unchanged

Egypt’s central bank has kicked off 2022 with keeping its key interest rates unchanged on Thursday.

The central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has kept the overnight deposit rate, overnight lending rate, and the rate of the main operation with no change at 8.25 percent, 9.25 percent, and 8.75 percent, respectively, the bank said in a statement.

The discount rate was also on hold at 8.75 percent.

The bank’s real interest rates are still among the highest in the world.
