Egypt’s competition authority launches 1st annual conference

The first annual conference of the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) kicked off on Sunday, June 9th, under the patronage of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly.

The conference, expected to draw a diverse audience, will feature a range of high-profile attendees including ministers, heads of sectoral bodies, and parliamentarians.

The conference agenda boasts three key discussion sessions:

  1. The strategy of competitive neutrality and its effects on markets
  2. The positive effects of effective competition law enforcement on markets and national economies
  3. The prior control over economic concentration operations

This inaugural event aims to achieve several objectives:

Policy reviews and improvement: The conference will delve into existing competition protection policies and law enforcement tools.

National strategy in focus: Discussions will centre on the national strategy for competitive neutrality.

Empowering the ECA: The conference will analyse the impact of recent legal amendments granting the ECA prior control over economic concentrations.

Fostering collaboration: By bringing together government officials, businesses, legal experts, and media representatives, the conference creates a platform for open dialogue. Sharing diverse perspectives will lead to a more informed and collaborative approach to competition law application.

This annual event will serve as a platform to build upon past achievements, develop future strategies, and shape a more competitive business environment for the country.
